"Acting has to be simple. Simple and specific. The actor never needs to manipulate himself or the other person to get something. More important is your sense of truth, beacause it is not up to the actor. We can have Robert De Niro up there and trying to do something and if the play write says you don't get it, you don't get it.
Feeling, responding. There so much to respond to. There's nothing to make up.
And the only problem with it it's very revealing. If you're willing to be revealed.
You are entertaining by virtue of your humanity, not by what you do.
But as an actress, my darling, you are an emotional machine. You have to learn how to push your own buttons, turn it on, turn it off. This is just work. This is our work. Whatever you believe you creat. If you really believe something it starts to manifest. And the believing it's the hard part, but this is what the actors do. Actors faith. You have to suspend your disbelief.
People rush. They haven't made a connection and they run to the next thing. You think by saying words you gonna get involved. You can read a 1000 words on a page and not get very involved. You can take one word instead. I don't need a half of page, you can tell really quickly, that's why you shouldn't hurry yourself.
You just have to know what it means to you. That's your character.
Characters really are you... With a point of view.
Keep all of that and make it more eventful. Without going overboard.
The big thing as an actor is how well you use yourself.
Nothing is required but you.
But you are wholly required.
What did you do to me?? Oh, shit, I'm gonna have to suffer, to go through the whole thing again. To talk about this, to talk about that. Ohhhhh, FUCK this!! I'm gonna have a beer with my friends...
